When Charles Mingus got backed into a corner, he often came out swinging. With Blues and Roots, this was quite literally the case. Needless to say, Mingus makes his point from the first to the last note. Blues and Roots swings hard and oozes with soul. “Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting” is raw blues at its best. The band swing in full force.
